Imagine waking up every day knowing that no government, no aid agency, no official support system is coming for you. You are stranded in a camp where hope is something people stopped believing in long ago. There are no hospitals, no schools, no clean water. The roads are impassable, the infrastructure is nonexistent, and the world has forgotten you.
For many, home is a place of safety, belonging, and stability but for thousands in Somalia, home is something they have lost. Not because they crossed borders as refugees, but because they were forced out of their own lands, left to wander in their own country with no place to call home.
For years, these communities have faced deep-rooted marginalization, discrimination, and land theft. Their ancestral lands were taken, leaving them displaced, unheard, and struggling to survive. When the floods of 2021 and 2022 came, they washed away the little they had left. Many were left with absolutely nothing no land, no shelter, no access to clean water, and worst of all, no access to healthcare. These individuals are not refugees in another country. They are wanderers in their own homeland forgotten, ignored, and left without help.
But at Fearless Females Inc., we refuse to let them be forgotten. We see them. We hear them. And most importantly, we are acting to help them survive.
2024: Our First-Ever Medical Distribution.
In January 2024, we embarked on a life-changing mission our first-ever medical aid distribution in Somalia. With your support, we were able to provide essential medications to 100 individuals who otherwise had no access to treatment. The impact was immediate. Parents who had watched their children suffer finally had medicine to treat them. Elderly individuals who had endured chronic pain for years finally had relief. Those who had suffered in silence for too long finally had hope.
During our medical distribution, we focused on treating the most urgent and life-threatening conditions. Ceftriaxone injections were given to those suffering from severe bacterial infections such as kidney infections, urinary tract infections, and pneumonia. Many of these individuals had been enduring prolonged infections with no access to antibiotics, and this single intervention prevented life-threatening complications.
We also distributed Artemether injections to combat severe malaria cases, a disease that remains one of the leading causes of death in Somalia. Without treatment, malaria can cause multi-organ failure and death, but with this life-saving medicine, we were able to stop the disease from progressing in many vulnerable individuals, particularly children and the elderly.
Anemia, a silent killer in malnourished communities, was another major concern. We provided Ferrous Sulfate Syrup to children and mothers suffering from extreme fatigue and weakness. Without enough iron, the body cannot produce healthy red blood cells, leading to dizziness, fainting, and developmental delays in children. By addressing this, we were able to restore strength and energy to some of the most vulnerable members of the community.
Chronic pain, which often goes untreated in these camps, was also addressed through the distribution of Diclofenac tablets and ointments. Many elderly and disabled individuals live with unbearable pain every single day, unable to move or function normally. With these medications, they were able to experience relief for the first time in years.
But despite all we accomplished, the work was far from over. The demand for medication far exceeded our supply, and we knew that if we did not return, many more would continue to suffer in silence.
2025: Expanding Our Reach
Determined to do more, we launched another medical distribution this month February 2025, focusing on an often overlooked but deadly disease: schistosomiasis.
Schistosomiasis is a parasitic infection that thrives in contaminated water-the only water these communities have access to. It is a slow killer, beginning silently as the parasites infect the body through the skin. At first, people feel weak, maybe a little sick. But over time, the parasites attack the intestines, liver, bladder, and other organs, leading to agonizing pain, severe malnutrition, and, eventually, death.
Children cannot grow properly. Elders suffer unbearable pain. Parents lose the ability to work and provide for their families. And worst of all? It is entirely preventable.
This time, we focused on distributing Praziquantel 600 mg tablets, the only medication that effectively kills the parasites, stops the disease from progressing, and saves lives. Just one dose can change everything.
Through our Essentials First Program, we were able to provide 125 individuals, ranging from children as young as three years old to elderly individuals in their seventies, with this life-saving treatment.
For them, this pill was not just medicine. It was a second chance at life.
But for every one person we treated, there are dozens more still waiting.
They are still drinking from infected water sources because they have no other choice. They are still living with parasites slowly destroying their bodies because there is no doctor to turn to. They are still being forgotten while the world looks away.
These are not just statistics. These are mothers, fathers, children people with names, dreams, and stories. What makes their suffering even more tragic is that it is preventable.
